Piercings & Pregnancy

Hey Vault fans.

Today we are here to talk to you about piercings and pregnancy. Should you keep your piercings in? Should you take them out? Can you get a new piercing while you are pregnant? Post birth piercings as well as other pressing questions. We would just like to clarify that this is just our opinion. If you have any major concerns we would strongly recommend consulting your GP, Midwife or OBG-YN.

Firstly we want to talk about different types of piercings and how the may be affected through pregnancy. Please keep in mind that we are all different and what worked for someone else may not work for you and vice versa. Depending on where your piercings are they may affect you as your body changes and grows through your pregnancy. If you decide from the start that you are going to remove all of your body jewellery you may want to discuss this with your piercer for the best advice if you want them back after child birth. Of course some piercings have a lower impact than others. Most ear and face piercings should not be affected during pregnancy, although if you are mid way through stretching your ear then you should not stretch any further to avoid any possible infection but if you are adamant about continuing consult with your local piercing studio and take extra care to avoid complications. It is also worth noting that if you require a cesarean/c-section your doctor may ask to remove all of your piercings before heading to the operating theatre/OR.

If you have your bellybutton pierced you may want to remove it. As your belly grows and expands your belly button may start to stick out so far that your current bar mat not be able to stretch, at this point your belly bar may need to be removed. Don’t worry though as here at Vault 101 we are here to help. You can replace your existing belly bar with special maternity belly bars and maternity barbells which bend and flex with your belly much easier.😁

Nipple piercings can also be rather problematic during pregnancy, during this time your nipples can become tender forcing you to remove them, but you don’t need to remove it unless you really want to. If you are choosing to breastfeed your baby we would personally advise you remove your piercings altogether. Not only can a bar be a choking hazard to your baby but there have been studies shown that a piercing can damage the milk duct and reduce milk flow. There are some studies however that state that you can nurse a newborn with your nipple bars still in place, it all boils down to personal preference, we are not here to tell you what to do we are just offering general advice.

If you are thinking about getting a new piercing whilst pregnant we would personally not advise getting one, again this is our advice and if you are comfortable getting despite the potential risks then of course do so. If you do decide to get one be sure to come back to Vault 101 Limited and chose from our high quality products at low prices and don’t forget discount code 5OFF for 5% off your 1st order 😉 . But I digress, even if you know and trust your piercing studio we would not advise getting a new piercing until your pregnancy is over. Wait until you are fully recovered then get one, make a day of it pamper yourself, as lets face it, you deserve it.

Of course if you have any other questions feel free to use our contact page and we will get back to you. Please be sure to follow Vault 101 Limited on our social network pages, Facebook & Instagram. Also please be sure to checkout our other blog posts for more helpful information posted ever week.
