Vault 101’s Top 10 Tips to Help Your Piercing Heal Faster
Help Your Piercing Heal Faster
Hey Vault 101 fans. As you may or may not know the first couple of weeks after getting a new piercing can be the most difficult to live with. Swelling, inflammation and general discomfort in certain areas is an all too common occurrence that many of us have to endure. But do not despair as today your favourite blogger is back with some handy tips to speed up the healing process.
- Sleep. We all love sleep right? Well make sure to get a good night’s sleep as healing mainly takes place when your body is in a calm state.
- Eating Correctly. Speaking of things we love, food! Maintaining a healthy diet is very important. Fruit, vegetables, carbohydrates, proteins and fat are all recommended. A low calorie diet in order to lose weight will not help the healing process so dig in!
- Water. Good old H2O is a staple of any healthy body. Water cleans out the whole body and makes it healthier, and a healthy body heals faster.
- Vitamins. If you want to give your body a healthy boost extra vitamins and supplements can also help. Iron, zinc speed up healing as well as vitamins B and C. Your body is your temple, look after it.
- Cleaning. Straight forward tip here, cleaning your piercing is essential in keeping it healthy and speeding up the healing process. We have you covered here at Vault 101 with our saline solution spray perfect if you are in a rush or away from home. Alternatively a homemade saline solution using a kettle and table salt will be equally effective.
- Stress. Try and avoid getting stressed (easier said than done). Stress is not only the enemy but it can also extend convalescence by up to 40%.
- Activities. There are certain activities that should be avoided in order to achieve a healthy piercing. Avoid swimming, dying your hair and do not use any creams around the area unless instructed to by your doctor or dermatologist.
- Touching. This tip we can personally vouch for. When you get a new piercing it is all too tempting to pull, push and twist it, especially if it is feeling inflamed, or if you are nervous or bored. This fidgeting should be avoided at all costs where possible. Touching a piercing with potentially germ covered hands can lead to further irritation and possibly infection. This will also achieve further trauma and prolong healing time.
- Alcohol & Caffeine. Cutting down on alcohol and caffeine will also help in the overall healing time of a piercing. Your body produces energy to get rid of them, energy that would be better spent on helping your body repair.
- Smoking. Last but by no means least. Smoking can cause many other health problems that I am sure you are aware of, it also detrimental to the healing process. When you smoke, carbon dioxide enters your body causing your blood vessels to narrow. This restricts the blood flow throughout your entire body. Your blood is the most important part of the healing process and it contains all the substances needed for healing tissue. Simply put the less blood that has access to the wound the slower the healing process.
That concludes our list, many of these tips may seem easy and straight forward but they are very easily overlooked. With these combined steps in place they can have a very big impact on the overall speed and health of not only your new piercing but your overall quality of life, don’t say we aren’t good to you.
